Hindi version of Chemmeen (1965 Malayalam) which was given the National Award and made Salil famous with the Malayalam and
other South Indian Film producers. Salil composed music for at least 25 Malayalam
Films and around 10 Tamil/Telegu and Kannada Films. A large majority of these
songs are versions or variations on his Bengali compositions. An LP of "Chemmeen Lahrein" was released back in the '80s and it has become a collector's item. I wouldn't rave about the hindi versions of the original Malayalam songs though except Hariharan's beautiful version of "Pyaasa hai man kyaa karoo.n". The added bonus on this LP are three background music tracks from the film. |
